Resolved Question

Renew Commitment?

My husband does not understand that I need a new commitment from him since he has strayed. Is this NOT fair? If you break your marriage vows; what is the best way to make them solid again short of a new ceremony?

I don't think you are asking too much....If he does not want to I would wonder how special this relationship is to him.

I would make him commit again in some form. If he refuses it might tell you something.

I am so sorry you are going though all of this but you must either go forward or quit you can only control what you do and feel. If you don't trust him this isn't going to work. Outside of that remember healing is a process and scars are likely. my prayers are with you both.

The only way to make it solid again is if he agrees to commit. Otherwise, it would be a single person effort. You can't force or even coerce him to. Most you can do is maintain your side of agreement and be open. Making it solid again after a break is something both of you have to find a common ground in order to see through what new commitment you both agreed on. Just as you both agreed to marry, you should both agree on the mutual terms to continue the marriage.

You both need to come to some sort of new agreement about your marriage. If he has strayed once..how do you know he is not going to stray again? Somehow you need to build the trust back into your relationship if you really want it to work. If he does not seem to care about discussing how you are going to rebuild your marriage, then maybe you need to think about how serious he is about continuing a life with you...

Even if it is private, between just you and him. He should do something to let you know that his commitment to you is firm and intact. Even if it is just the simple act of writing down his commitment to you on paper and burning it in a bowl. Something to let you know... that he is really sorry for what he did.

I know he can tell you, "Take my word, that is good enough", but his word is worthless. If he loves you what ever you ask of him, he should already have given so there should be no fear of commitment... in this regards you have asked for nothing.

I hope I am wording this properly. I'm starting to feel tired.

And what is to say that a commitment ceremony now would have any more or less validity than the first one did? There is an old saying that says "An oral contract is only as good as the paper it is written on"
Forget the commitment ceremony, and go find the REAL CAUSE of the straying. Because having a commitment ceremony is much like putting a pretty bandage over an infected cut. You aren't going to fix the wound without cleaning it first.
