bike riding. Strengthens the legs and helps with the knee range of motion.
Water work outs. the water does good for resistance but takes most of the weight off the joints.
Sex. well.....just because.

I would like to be able to achieve a fast paced walk again, so I can lose weight but my knees and back have conspired against me to a slow walk with a cane and lots of pain

jump rope is very effective, can be done anywhere, and requires a very small time slot. Your bottom and legs will look amazing.

That's a toughie. I like to run, but jogging can be good too. I walk pretty fast during my daily workouts, and like that too. I don't jump rope, but I do hula hoop. So I guess 3 out of 4 isn't too bad. :)
