Russia did not annex Crimea; after a putsch which drove the duly elected government out of Ukraine, and replaced it with a Western-centric, Euro-Centric government, the people of Crimea voted, in what observers characterized as a free and fair election, to align themselves with Russia, rather than the Ukraine.

The Crimea has only been a part of Ukraine since the mid-50s and has extensive, historical ties to Russia.

Whoever characterized Crimea's move after this Putsch as an "annexation", has obviously just awakened from a deep sleep in the 50s, where the "Big Lie" could be sold to the American people just as easily as could be TV dinners, and digested just as well.
