This is a difficult one. Personally, I'd keep them for as long as I needed to. One day it will feel "right" to let them go, but now is clearly not the time.

No different from keeping letters from deceased loved ones... Keep them, and as another suggested, put them on more permanent media.

And, as time goes on, try to listen to them a little less often.

One day you'll just put them away, and move on... but that will be when you are ready.

Why not? You keep pictures, etc. this is just a way to remember him in his day to day life. I WOULD, however, try to get them recorded on some more permanent media!!!

I have a tape, 40 years old, with me as a little girl. It has my grand parent,my great grand parents and my parents, as well as other family since deceased. I see no difference !

To bad there's not a way you could save them onto a C.D. disk or something !

If it helps, keep them. If it prevents you from moving on, maybe it's time to delete. If you're getting on with your life and not living in the past, then i'd say it's fine, but if it's preventing you from finding someone else to share your life with, then it's something you'll have to think about. In the end it's your choice and only you can decide whether this is healthy or not. Best of luck to you.

I would give anything to have had one message from my dad on my phone when he passed. Keep them...

I would keep them, so you can always hear his voice when you want to. Everyone keeps pictures and letters, why not voicemail messages. I would treasure them if I were you.

I don't know. I'm kind of with balboaguy on this one. Hopefully one day you will know when it feels right to delete them, or at least not hang on to all 21 of them. Just don't let keeping them hold you back from anything.

There's nothing wrong with doing this at all. If this is on your cell phones you can call your service provider and request to have them make a copy for you. You'll let go when you're ready.
