    Spend only what you know you'll be able to pay back in full when it's due

    Use only what you can afford to pay back at the end of each month. that way you build up a good credit rating without incurring any interest charges. Even better, set up a direct debit so that your credit card bill is paid 'in full' each month so that you are guaranteed not to pay any interest.

    Don't use the card as a flexible loan, but only as an alternative to cash.
