Science Homework- Need help urgently!!!!!?

Hey guys,
My friend and I are in desperate need of an answer to this particular question...

CAN GLYCOGNE GET THROUGH CELL MEMBRANE TO BLOOD STREAM? PLEASE EXPLAIN.

Glycogen cannot move through a cell membrane on its own because its too large (and not lipophilic enough..?). Plus, it has to be broken down via glycogenolysis before it can get to a form that would be released free into circulation ( aka broken down to glucose). Look up glycogenolysis on wikipedia for more.

puzzles100	Posted Sep 15th, 2009 at 9:06AM Do you mean glycogen? If that's what you mean, I don't think it can. This is all I know, glycogen is used as a source for storing energy. It's too big to cross the cell membrane. But glucose can, which is what glycogen is made of. Rated: +2Vote for this!

candy100	Posted Sep 15th, 2009 at 11:29AM glycogen is stored glucose in the liver & a little amt. in muscle. It is stored in long chains. In order to be able to pass ito the blood stream the chains need to be broken down to individual glucose molecules else in its stored form the molecules are simply too large. Rated: +1Vote for this!
