I am probably a bit late with this reply but

I dont have kids,. and am not an expert BUT as usual I have an opinion on everything

If it was me I would

A) NOT dismiss it as silly - it is obviously worrying her so listen (remember in future you want her to come to you with any problems and worries so dont blow it now)

B) Sit and hold her - be there to comfort her and protect her from the bad thoughts and ask what it was all about (could it be she saw a nature program or they had a nature lesson at school with snakes eating mice etc). Understand the problem.

C) Talk to her - say OK this never happens, never ever evr.

1) We dont have snakes that big here.

2) SAY OK I AM SURE THERE ARE NO SNAKES HERE and I will probve it to you by checking the room with her to show her there are no snakes there - ask her is there anywhere else we should check and check there with her, laugh and joke make it a fun thing make the room a happy place again

3) Quietly remove anything "snakelike" from the room - eg a rolled up t shirt or toy etc - dont want her seeing things in the dark

4) Even think about looking in books at nice small snakes to show they ciould not possibly eat anything bigger than a sweet!

5) Tell her that if she wants you will do more checks with her, and suggest that at the end of the week you will go out for a treet together - make the rest of the week a time filled with what shall we do, plans on how to do it when to go, what to wear etc. Distract her!

Hope it all works / worrked out OK

Give her knowledge. Most snakes are not able to eat people and assuming you live in an area without such snakes, reassure her with the truth. In our area we only have small garter snakes. I would think if she saw the reality, with her permission ahead of time of course -- after your continued reassurance and your staying with her, she would realize that the real snakes in her world are no real danger.
