Should a person refrain from commenting on things that they don't agree with?

on stories, confessions, etc is it better to let your opinion be known if you don't agree with the topic, or should you just skip making a comment altogether? i have to admit that when i feel very strongly about something, i have to say something. what about the rest of you?

I think its OK to disagree. Where people mess up is that they either get too personal, or take things too personal. Thats when feelings get hurt and tempers flair. Anybody that puts something up here in public and doesn't expect differing views is crazy.

Only in some cases.

If a person is downright being a complete *******, then no.

There is nothing wrong with disagreeing as long as you keep it pleasant. No direct insults or namecalling etc.

I realize that sometimes I don't abide by that hehe, but some people deserve it sometimes. I will not hold my tongue when it comes to ignorance.

making a comment is fine. as long as it's not hateful or they're trying to force their opinion on you in the course of the conversation.

people CAN disagree respectfully....see another person's point of view..maybe even lend new insight to different kinds of topics....as long as it's done nicely :D

I tell it like it is. I don't poke my nose into the middle of an argument or conversation, but if someone is talking to me, regardless if they want it or not, they are going to get my opinion.

I feel that it's ok to express disagreement if it's done diplomatically and with tact, respect, and in the spirit of intelligent discourse- and not with the intent of shooting the other person down.

I agree with Artisina that the key is being respectful. Disagreement leads to debate which leads to enlightenment occasionally. There are few things I enjoy more than having my eyes opened a little wider by someone else's experience and opinions.

Yes, of course. Then nobody would disagree with anyone else, and harmony would abound.

As long as you disagree respectfully, I think it's fine. Because life is really just a series of opinions. Reality is perception. I have changed my perception on many things over the years as I learn and experience more. I think it's healthy to hear other opinions because they may have more information than I do, or experienced something differently than I have. Doesn't make either one of us wrong. It's just learning. It should be kept nice though.
