No. The prisons aren't large enough, for one thing.

I am so tired of our laws being based on what is actually religous belief. Not everyone thinks the same and passing laws about personal issues is retarded. It's just a way of letting the government have more and more control over us. To answer the question, no, I don't think that cheating should be made a crime. Sheesh!

It should be, but people are too hypocritical to actually make it a law.

Hmm...Good Question...

I personally have no tolerance for cheating...
It is one thing to fall in love with another and break up with your partner. Or get really F-ed up and have an accidental one night stand, may be hard but may be forgivable. An ongoing affair is totally unacceptable in my opinion. All the lies, the what if's.

As low as it is to cheat-a total desecration to a persons character it should not be a crime. Unless you knowingly spread an STD just because you didn't want to blow up your game.

Adultery still is a crime in many parts of the world.

And no, it shouldn't be one in my opinion. It's a lie, a personal failing, a proof of weakness and an admission that a person cannot be trusted... but it's not a crime per se.

How could you legislate a strong natural inclination? If you can explain how and why people are drawn together, then maybe you'd have a chance, but no one can really ever explain why some people are attracted to each other. There is research on love and lust and these are biochemical and neurologic inclinations, so why would you punish that?

Even though you can't get arrested for cheating, you can definitely get punished for it. For example, during divorce proceedings, the cheating spouse may be awarded less money and may lose child custody. He or she may even be forced to pay more child support.

And even though this may sound awful, people sometimes cheat for a reason. It's not a cut-and-dry act.

Cheating like on a test?
Or cheating like adultery?
Neither should be a crime. We have too many laws right now.

Some people say that morality shouldn't be legislated, that is just plain ridiculous. Every law in existence is based on morality.

Should adultery be legislated, in the US military, it is a crime punishable under the UCMJ. I think society is too far along to enforce civilian laws in this area, half the adult population would be in jail. No, keep it off the books and don't interfere with the business of litigation......why stop a major money machine....

Yes it should. If you cheat me in business then you will go to prison, the same should be true in relationships.

I am of the very firm belief that this country has entirely too many laws now! I do not think cheating should be considered a "crime"...However, I also do not think shooting the sob in the back while he's (or she) gettin his freak on with a ho shouldn't be a crime either (if the couple is married and one of them suddenly decides they want to have their cake and eat it too)....All's fair in love and war...

Certainly. But it can be forgiven like other crimes which are punished by social institutions.

not so much a crime but it's wrong!
people have said that cheating is a little way out - but the way out should be "i dont want to be with you" simple.
There is no excuse for cheating. people who cheat don't deserve good relationships.

IT SHOULD, NOT ONLY ARE YOU CREATING EMOTIONAL DAMAGE, BUT PHYSICAL AS WELL, THINK ABOUT THE DAMAGE YOU COULD DO WITH A ONE NIGHT STAND, ESPECIALLY WITH STD'S AND AIDS
