I had a whoooole class on the ethics of this stuff. I'm not sure where I stand.

On one hand, I want to say yes, because they way I see it is I have nothing to hide. I've not done anything wrong, so why would I care if my DNA is on file? The government already has my name, social security number, public school records, etc., so what's one more thing? People who have nothing to hide have nothing to worry about, and people who HAVE committed a crime that is traceable via DNA will be caught.

Unfortunately I learned it is more complicated than that. DNA is about 3 billion base pairs long. One little mistake, either human or computer, can get you confused with another person. In addition, it can be misused and abused by people in power of that information. That can lead to all kinds of chaos.

Very complicated situation. Things being the way they are right now, I'm gonna lead towards no.

I think it's a good idea, but I know some would argue from a civil rights standpoint that it's too much like BIG BROTHER, having a database of everyone's DNA.

Oh, that's a tough one, part of me screams 'No, absolutely not' I think how that information could be misused, accidently or otherwise, but then, look at all the benifits! I don't suppose we'll get a choice anyway when the time comes.

Sure, just in case you are an accident prone child your parents can clone you in the event of an untimely death!

It would speed up finding the criminal in around 100 years or so.

Theres only a small percentage of fingerprints in database and it take some time to compare (based on movies) i guess dna is much more complicated. I heard somewhere a dna test take a 5-10 days. Anyway i dont think it would decrease crime couse not every crime leaves dna sample, maybe the crooks would be more carefull.
