Should Felons (Ex Convicts) have the right to vote? Why or Why Not?

I think after they have served the term they should have their right to vote just like all the other citizens. They should have a "NON" existent right to select their country's leaders just as i do. Denying them the right to vote is like denying them the right to marry, which some of them can do while serving their term.

Yes. They have done their time so let them be. We really should take a look at some other countries...when people do their time in other countries its over done with and society doesnt hold it against them, but we as "americans" do.

Most states allow felons to vote after serving their time.

Only two have life-long disenfranchisement of the right, Kentucky and Virginia.

I think after serving their time, if they have become a productive member of society, then they should have a right to vote. If you disenfranchise someone for life, you are removing a reason for them to care about joining civil society.

In my personal opinion, if an individual has served their time, has participated in all of the programs prisons have to offer (which keep getting cut - rehabilitation works for 80 percent of the prison population) and have shown that they are functioning members of society then yes, civil rights should be restored after release.

Civil rights are what makes Americans free. How can anyone be free if they are striped of their rights? I believe there may be some instances where civil rights should not be restored (murder, sex offender, crimes against children) but, I am NOT a lawyer / politician and do NOT play one on TV - so that decision is not mine to make.

Not all felons are horrible disgusting people. Get to know one (1 in 4 people have a felony) I'm sure you'd change your mind. Don't believe the garbage the media feeds you about those who have a felony.

When you break the law you give up your rights. Voting is a privlidge and considering the idiots that can vote but don't...convicts shouldn't get to make a difference.

Do the crime pay the time. You go to prison as punishment not for punishment. so once the custodial part is done and you are released u should be re-enfranchised. There are many prisoners on licence or supervision who will be recalled to prison for a breach, or suspected breach and they will lose their votive rights. That's ok cos they are no longer ex convicts.

I think ex-cons should be put to work sending the undocumented aliens back to their homelands.

After time is served the slate should be cleaned, at least in America where 31% of adults are doing time.

When you break the law of the land, your disrespecting the land. You disrespect your neighbor and self.

when you are a law abiding citizen yu earn the right to vote. If your not, you lose it.

Why is that hard to understand?
