I don't know cats too well, but something tells me that it is not the best idea.

No way! As much sleep as cats need there would be no way he could be happy out there on the trail. Just think about how negative his/her attitude would be. It would totally ruin the hike.

You know, I had the bright idea to take my cat camping with me once. Just for an overnight, and not too far from home. At about 2am, he figured out how to maneuver the zipper and was out of my tent! When I finally woke up, I could hear him meowing this "hey I'm lost, come find me" meow, kinda long and kinda deeper than normal. So, me and my flashlight were crawling around other's tents, and up under cars trying to get him to come to me. Long story short, I got him back with the help of others campers.
The moral of my little story is: Don't take your cat anywhere cool like that. He just won't get it.

No, please don't. It could get lost, or attacked by another animal, or pick up some disease or other. I hope you're not serious--but if you are, please don't do it. Leave kitty at home with food and water and a catnip mouse to play with and you'll both have a better time.

Depends if they will walk on a lead - if they won't you'll find they just run off!
