A full glass to themselves... eh.. probably not. To try some...yes. I feel if you make alcohol seem like a forbid thing... they will want it more and maybe sneak out for it.
It's really a tough call I guess. Each parent will feel differently. Im not sure what you mean by early teens.... 13? I would just allow a taste at 13. My oldest is 18 and I would let her maybe have half glass if we were celebrating and toasting.

I would say late teens would be fine, but when a child is early into the teenage years their bodies are going through so many changes and their hormones are so out of whack that alcohol (even so small an amount as a glass of wine) would do no good for the child.

Small amount, yes. Full glass...NO. I've let our 16 yo taste wine that we use in cooking for several years now. They are going to drink, whether you believe it or whether you stick your head in the sand and don't think "YOUR" kids will...yah, right. So IF they drink, I'd rather that they'd been taught properly...to drink with moderation and know it's ok to sip dad's beer or try the wine we're having. That's better than having to sneak a sip of vodka and then replacing it with water or sneaking out with friends to drink their first beer. Sometimes moderation, not prohibition
is the best solution.

Well, it is illegal. That said, when my son was around 12 or 13, I let him have a few glasses of champagne on New Year's Eve. I let him have as much as he wanted. He spent the whole night on the floor of my bedroom - no pillow, no blankets. He just moaned and groaned and tossed and turned all night. He hasn't had a drink since.

I have 13y and 15y boys both have tried what I have been drinking but as yet neither have been allowed an entire glass. It is only my 15y who seems vaguely interested at this point and we are actually still unsure which way to go...afterall we drink so if we say its bad are we hypocrites?

I have known a family who did this since thier kids were younger and it was always in perportion to thier age. Just enough to help in the digestion of food they would say. None of thier kids now mostly grown have a problem with alcohol and only drink a small glass of, as they say "Good Wine", with thier meal.

It has been proven in cultures where alcohol is introduced early and is not taboo, kids and adults handle it better. Far less alcoholism in Europe were wine is served with meals and is seen as a food group.

No, kids today aren't mature enough and there is too much negative pressure and negative role-modeling around them. All they will do is act like they enjoy it and later get drunk on all of it. I wish I could say yes, but looking from observation, I know the answer is no. At least in america.
