There should be something more than what is currently on the books for doing this. Most people are simply charged with public mischief or filing a false police report. Normally all they get is a minimal fine and/or probation. It is a travesty when some-one's reputation is ruined and they have to defend against false accusations.

Some accusations can destroy someones life. A false accusation of rape or sexual assault, especially in regards to children can destroy someone financially.
