Should stores show the REAL PRICE meaning the price that you have to pay listed on the tag? instead of not showing tax

Q&A Home   >  Community   >  EP

some items have a sales tax. Some items might have a higher sales tax than another. Some items might not be taxed. Some bottles or cans might have a bottle deposit added. Would it be better if they included all of that on the price tags so everyone knows exactly how much money they need? Why or why not?

I saw a 6pack of beer for $9.99, With state, county taxes and bottle deposit added, it was over $11.

No, the price is enough. Most people should know the tax rate generally.

You answered your own question. With all those different taxes applied to different things, and the fact that the rate could change or items go on sale, it's easier to add the tax after the sale.

If you're interested in knowing exactly how much you'll owe when you check out, you can use a pocket calculator to get the tax. It's what I do.

The tax is not part of the price. Everyone has to pay the taxes and people know what their taxes are. Why would anyone want to drive up costs by having to change the prices everytime taxes change? Keep it simple as it has been for years. Everyone knows about taxes. The taxes are then shown seperately on your bill for most things so you know just what the government it getting. Perhaps if more things had the taxes listed seperately (gasoline for one) then people would know how much the government is getting and it might effect their vote. Hopefully no one pay attention to your idea and gives the government any more free rides. I want to know what a store is charging for something to compare with other stores. Also all states do not pay the same taxes. I moved 2 years ago for this reason. Should stores (and online stores expecially, but many on state lines and that sell vehicles which can be licensed) have to have different prices based on where you live. What a monstrosity that would be.
