We live in a culture where eveyone expects something in return for helping someone else. Some parents do feel it is the child's responsibility to do everything for them. And some kids are brought up where everything is done for them. Both extremes are wrong. At a certain age, you should be an equal with your child - neither supporting them nor expecting them to support you (heath and stressful life issues excepted).

all depends. what age of children? kids have historically helped work family farms and made more contributions to the family than they do now as our culture tends to spoil our children more and more in the name of a "good childhood". kids often learn to be less responsible. i taught my kids at a pretty early age to wash their own laundry, clean their rooms...as they got older they became more and more self-sufficient in taking care of themselves. oh horror of horrors;p

i dont think a child can do all such activities, can do only once he is mature n has become smethng nice in life. parents bring child into this world so it's their RESPONSIBILTY to look after him till 21 years, i think. sweet ques. tc.:-)

I don't think it's fair for the older children to take care of their other younger silblings because the parents are strung out on drugs or anything.
but, I think it is okay for children to help the parents around the house with cleaning & such.
I help my mom with grocery shopping & cleaning & such, but my mom also has arthritis & fibromyalgia, and not to mention I'm eighteen.

If it is just laziness, no. I would not, my mother is very good at that. Lets things go in hopes of shaming someone else into doing it. I finally got the the point of tough ****, I have my life, you have yours, you set the tone of yours, I will do mine. Hard thing to come to grips with.
