Why do some call it "Getting your ears lowered"?
This comes from the military. My dad started saying it when he was in the air force. Getting hair cut well above the ears, made the ears look lower.
Coz some words are both singular and plural...hair is one of them

Hair is both an item and a name for the material it is made from.
I think it`s assumed that `hair` in the context of your question, is the plural of `hairs`?

They've never been to Austria. I know. I checked. Nobody in Vienna has ever seen them before!
