James Hamilton, a mathematics professor from the Univ of Nashville, stepped outdoors to check his weather instruments – the temperature was 8º. Without warning, the man felt a sharp pain in his leg like a wasp sting. He looked down to see a bright blue flame the size of a dime & several inches high erupt from his upper thigh. He managed to smother the flame and the professor’s skin showed only a dark red abrasion, but apparently, the muscle injury was very deep. It caused him severe pain and took more than a month to heal. A corresponding hole had burned through his underpants, but the trousers he was wearing weren’t even scorched.
