I thought the government is required to keep religion and state separate. If that's the case why do they call it a SIN tax?

Banning things such as booze, tobacco, pot or other drugs does not work. There is no true way to enforce those types of laws. As long as it exists people will use it. Just look at the amount of alcohol that actually flowed during prohibition.

Far better to legalize it all because it would:
a) save all the costs of enforcing the laws and locking up users.
b) be a large source of tax revenue that could be used for education and health
c) ensure the items being sold are of consistent wquality and not cut with poisonous stuff just to make more money.
d) reduce the secondary crime rate (ie people commiting other crimes to pay for drugs)
c) stop fooling the people into believing that they are actually being protected form drug users when in fact drug use is really increasing.

nope.

People should be able to make the decision on both. Less laws about lifestyle choices please, i.e. smoking, seat belts, bicycle helmets, etc.

The only reason that cigarettes are not outlawed is because of the taxes recieved from the tobacco industry.
States are now working on proposed law to make marijuana legal for personal use, by charging $50 an oz tax.
for the state I live that would be approx 2 billon. So who knows what will happen in 20 years, Maybe the tobacco industry will start growing and selling weed like cigarettes and everybody will be High, I mean happy
