I am a fan of Lost in Space. (Trivia: The two theme songs for the show...? Written by none other than John Williams, celebrated composer of Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, etc, etc, etc)
That being said, the first 5 episodes were a serious space drama. Dr. Smith was not just dangerous because he was selfish and cowardly, he was dangerous because he was actively trying to KILL THE ROBINSONS OFF.
It was only after those episodes that the focus of the show changed to a more kid oriented slant, and eventually became "monster of the week" starring the "bumbling" Doctor Smith and his boy companion, Will, and robot side kick, B-9.
So, for me... yeah. Episode 1 would have been his last. Episode 5 at the latest. ;)
