Some old Cool jazz? Not looking for mainstream stuff..

Q&A Home   >  Hobbies   >  Music

Pls post some track names. I really liked Chet Baker songs - My funny Valentine, Almost Blue, What love is.. He had a great voice and was a good Trumpet player :) I don't know if he was mainstream.. Looking for good stuff.

Here's some jazz that might be considered 'out there'
    Spaceways Incorporated
    Roland Kirk

For stuff that's less 'out there'.... try: Thelonius Monk, Medeski Martin Wood, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Bud Powell, Clifford Brown, Horace Silver.

And if you want the best in Jazz guitar, go with Grant Green or Wes Montgomery.

I just got a book on him today through Amazon. His story is kind of sad.
As for his music.I like "Almost Blue" but that is not exactly old.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4PKzz81m5c
I like his version of "I'm A Fool To Want You" but Billie Holiday does it better,IMO.

Charlie Parker, more freeform but still a bit commercial. Just remember daddio, the hepcats don't clap they click.

Good choice . . . probably Herbie Mann is too mainstream but I liked him in the 60s.
