Cooking for them is a nice idea, and cost-effective if you're on a budget. I think it's very nice for you to even think of a thank-you gift...

If they have animals/children you could take a picture and make it into a thankyou card, or if they have a garden buy something for that.
Or offer to help them with something around the place.

Well different people love different things but I think some cookies, boxes of chocolate or snacks will be great. My relatives always bring me those when they come over and it's never disappointing :D

If you can cook, how about you make them something tasty? If not, I personally always appreciate baked goods and/or coffee. Coffee = love (lol to me anyway)

I saw the coolest gift idea on amazon- a bottle of hibiscis flowers in syrup. you use them in drinks- they are elegant and edible! pour the booze in first- add the flower and it unfolds in the bottom of the drink- it makes champagne or white wine a light pink tint. They are good for you, pretty, elegant, delicious and only $5.00 a jar- but look like you spent $20 cuz some places CHARGE $20 for the same size & brand. you could include a bottle of bubbly as well to go with.
