It's on the back but to the left side and it's in the mid back, kind of upper back.

This is not spice, no worries. It's like a spasm. I had that once, or twice. Got it after doing some rough activities and then a big cough even few hours later and suddenly this nerve went bananas.
I don't think you can do anything to it. don't meddle with it much apart from mild warming. (massage is going to be just temporary, if useful at all) not too much. don't try to move, laugh, shout, or anything other than normal breathing and lightly asking for a glass of water!
if you have at home, grate and eat a cucumber, or a multivitamin pill.Like (1)

Can your insurance cover the trip to the hospital?

You may have pulled a muscle..ice and time are pretty much the only cure that I have found...I hope it gets better soon.

Pinched nerve. It's big trouble when your spine has these kinds of issues.

It's probably best to talk to a chiropractor that knows what they are doing.Like (1)

Check in with the peanut gallery on EP Q&A. That would've been my first move too!
