Swearing, your opinions on it?

For some people it becomes such a habit that they are not even aware of doing it in normal conversation. At work we are a bunch of guys in an office and only 2 women so we've had some warnings of language use in front of the ladies (who sometimes go at it even worse than us!). I'm working in a mining environment so you can imagine how bad it gets here.

Swearing constitutes emphasis. All emphasis = no emphasis.

I think it shows a paucity of vocabulary. I seldom swear - very seldom indeed - and I think those who do so excessively let themselves down - they reveal themselves in their speaking in that way... as uneducated. They are still human brothers; but I would think twice before having a close friendship with them.

To me, someone who has to use the work "f**k" every few words makes me want to cringe; I don't like it.

hate it, i mean i swear but what i hate is today your not having a conversation without it.
i end up counting how many times people swear and dont listen to what they are saying.
there is a time and place.
people cant talk without saying they had sex, ate ****, look like a vagina. we have come so far.

I once counted the number of times a man said f**k in 30 seconds in a normal conversation.

17 times and not once did he use it in anger or to decribe a physical event.

I hate that type of eloquence

It's only words. And in some situations quite usefully descriptive. I'm selective about when I use them.

I love soft swear words like feck ...and think their is nothing more effective or funny than a woman using the word ****** (in the right context). In any event as I am Irish we tend to use swear-words as adjectives, nouns, verbs, adverbs like

"That fecker is so fecked up in his own fecking mind he is someone you should not feck with"

And nobody would bat an eyelid. I think however you should only use it in appropriate situations. Never with kids, older people or ladies and of course never offensive

one can usually make one's point without the use of vulgarity, I swear, but there are certain words I will not use. and the context of the word used is important~swearing when your'e having a joke is different to when your'e swearing in an argument.

It happens of course, but lately it seems that it is becoming more and more commonplace, even among children. Is it because of the media or are we just learning enough.

When one uses curse words it shows a lack of intelligence that they cannot think up other words to describe what they are feeling.

I'm no saint don't get me wrong I curse when I am upset but it just seems like it is more accepted nowadays

People who knowingly utter obscenities, profanities and indulge in crude language are demonstrating a lack of discipline/and or a deficient lexion to express their thoughts.
