    I think good friends, then lovers, and become bestfriends while you're lovers, because that's when you start getting really close.

    Your partner should be your best friend. Doesn't matter if previously he was your best friend or not.

    Why not stay as lovers too? Can you still be best friends afterwards?

    There are many reasons to stop being lovers, not all have to do with who the people are and what they want. Sometimes people may recognize that being lovers would cause more heartache and pain then it would to just be friends, but that connection they had will still live forever.

    I think it's more likely that friendship comes first in most cases. It seems if it were the other way around, 'that' time would be waiting to come back anyway, and so if there was a spark, mere friendship would subdue it.

    Not that it's impossible though!

    Absolutely best friends first. Sex is the icing on a cake, for a relationship.

    When a relationship isn't involved and it's only sex, well then one need not be friends.
