The better my life gets the more depressed I am?

Ok, I am asking this on behalf of my boyfriend. He told me that the better his life gets the more depressed. He's lost his sex drive. I walk around naked and nothing. I asked if I did anything and he said no, he hasn't been this happy with someone in about 4 years.But he admitted he's been fighting depression for a while and is going to go to therapy and get medication when his insurance kicks in. I spoke to my therapist about this and even she said that makes no sense. But she said maybe something happen in his life that was so terrible that a trigger sets his mood. And he did say there was something in his past that no one knows about, not even his best friend. He doesn't wanna tell me about. But he's just been acting weird like not being touchy feely, and we were before we moved in together. But he says he's happy with me but he wants to get help cuz he don't know why he's depressed. He says his phone is his security blanket and won't let me see it. Can someone explain this?welcome=t4

Maybe he has feelings of inadequacy about himself (who knows, maybe about being with you) and he is taking it all on himself, that's why he is feeling depressed. It is also possible that either his supposedly better life is falling short of his expectations or he isn't living up to his own expectations.

I have lived with this disease for over twenty years but with proper management he can and will live a happy fulfilled life. And his sex drive will return! Rated: +2Vote for this!
wiseowl	Posted May 22nd, 2009 at 9:55PM he needs help for depression. Nothing makes him cheerful. There is a big void that nothing can fill. Get him to agree on a visit to the Doctor. They can refer him. Depression is hard to talk about and explain to people close to them. A third party helps..like EP therapy. Rated: +2Vote for this!
dayenknight	Posted May 22nd, 2009 at 5:03PM He needs help...depression is suppressed unresolved hurt, pain, anger, guilt, anxiety, which in turn promotes feelings of unworthiness, helplessness, and hopelessness which stimulates low self image and low self worth....which leads to depression...feeling the world is not a nice place and is better off without me...as I have nothing to contribute...a feeling of absolute worthlessness... You can help him a little by not criticising him as this will make him feel worse about himself...and being supportive and understanding....let him read answers in here.... Discuss with him about his life in reassuring ways...part of his recovery depends on how much he is willing to face and learn about his condition and how much he trusts people around him... Tell him positive things like..he is bigger than any problem he has...we are never given anything we cannot handle in life...and only the very strong are given the most difficult things to solve in life.... Tell him that he can have a happy relationship without depression if he is willing to tackle it and nip it directly in the bud...he can do it...it is only a decision to do it... If you love him and would like a long term relationship then you can tell him that you will stick by him if he is willing to do this to get his happiness with you...encourage him to do it....it would be worth every effort he puts in....if he doesnt do it with you...it will continue to affect his life until he does...
