The callous/meanness of people in my life &random people is really taking its toll on my niceness. How do you stay nice?
People close to me, as well as people on the bus or at work do so many uncaring things. I used to be a sweet and thoughtful person, but now the impulse to be nice is dying, because of how everyone else treats me and each other. Is this normal, and how can I be strong enough to fight it and remain a good person?

Emotional detachment.
I stay on polite terms with negative people but I don't let them get to me or influence me in any way. I only gravitate toward positive people in my personal life.Like (2)

Don't treat your kindness as if it is any different then the color of you eyes. It is as much a part of you as your eye color and can not truly be changed. Your kindness can get lost behind the actions of others like you eyes behind a pair of colored contacts but at the end of the day you set it aside and see the real you.

Do what I do, get a good night sleep, drink a supercharged canned coffee, watch CNN or whatnot, shave properly and do all the other guy stuff, and then grit your teeth and smile and pretend you're happy peppy perky.

Don't think of it as being nice... think of living your life with a positive attitude.
What is the point of being negative? What do you have to gain? It's not for them, it's for you.... have you ever met a negative person who long term had good things happen to them or people like them? I bet not.
