The way our youths attire these days?

It makes me sick when I see young girls dress in such a way they should never have any business dressing as. Short skirts, tight pants, showing their bellies. I mean c'mon, where are the parents in all this? Why would a father/mother allow their child to go out in public like this? These things should be the farthest thing from these kids minds.

What is the world coming to?

If that was my little girl, over my dead body would she go out dressed like that let alone even have clothes in her wardrobe as such.

every generation asks this question and every generation thinks the world is going to hell because of it. its an adaptation of culture as years go by. and for some reason this generation is into self expression through clothes that make them feel like their body is being enhanced (sound familiar?) im 18 and i dont wear skimpy clothes. im your average jeans and a t shirt kind of girl and my boyfriend thinks its sexier than dressing like a hooch. does it mean i didnt go through a phase? no it just means i have finally learned to dress in clothes that are comfortable and make me confident (hence why my style is sexier to my bf than a short skirt and a crazy low cut shirt everyday) does it mean i never wear a low cut shirt? no. do i never wear short skirts? no. but when i do i know how to wear them sexy not slutty

I'd bet a paycheck it has a LOT to do with what they see in the movies, TV shows, magazines, music videos, etc. that they idolize. Most kids are not mature enough to think for themselves, so they see something they think is "cool" and copy it. It's not "cool" to want to be involved with community service or to do well in school. It IS "cool" to get laid by the time you're 15. So that's what they're trying to do.

As for the parents, usually one of two scenarios. Either they try their best, but their hands are tied once the kid leaves for school (you'd be surprised how many girls smuggle slutty clothes or make up into school against their parents' wishes), or they're just plain idiots. A lot of parents are complete p*ssies (for lack of a better word) who are afraid to raise their own children and want their kids to see them as hip and cool.

As a middle school teacher, I'm rather disgusted by the way 12-year-olds flaunt their breasts in front of the boys and their teachers.

But, we can't stop it, so my opinion is all but worthless here.

The world is becoming what adults make of it.

Definitely not all girls dress like this. Even when I was a teenager, I didn't dress like that. To this day I won't wear shorts or skirts because I have extremely long legs and it looks inappropriate, to me. And I'm not ashamed of my figure, I just think there's more to a woman than skin and I refuse to give anyone the wrong idea.

I completely agree and its not just because i am getting older.

Pre-teens are over-sexualised at too young an age which is dangerous game.

Ditching the TV is a start. It only encourages this behavour.

ninalanyon>teenage pregnancy rate is low.
OK what STDs? Emotional abuse of women? etc.

1) I don't think it's all youths that dress this way. It's a big stereotype.
2) I don't think it is respectable to to be wearing things like short shorts all the time but for many people it's normal and they don't see it as wrong at all.
3) The way girls dress in the media greatly affects the youth of today so you can't totally blame the ones that dress like that. Blame the media.
4) I think that the parents of the people that dress like that let them for the same reason their parents let them dress with the styles back when they were young.

The girls I see dressed like that are teen age girls. By that time they have a well developed sex drive and are out to catch the boys. Plus it’s a style thing.

Why is it that if a girl/ woman has an exposed belly between her shirt and pants, it is somehow wrong. But if she is in a bikini at the beach, it is ok that her belly is showing.

The problem lies within the viewer. Where I live both sexes wear pretty much what they like and no one cares. The streets are not full of slavering boys and the teenage pregnancy rate is low.

I adore seeing the young in modern dress; some of their ideas and styles are fashion leaders.

Throughout history the young have always rejected parental influences but until around the early 20c were kept in place by old codgers but mostly through poverty. With the advent of radio and wider social communication especially post WW1 the 'flappers' of the 20s came on the scene and modern music was in vogue. With subsequent freer communication the young found their own voice in society and today, as a group, they cannot be ignored while the old codgers of today have lost their influence and are cast to the care homes for the elderly still in the same old staid styles from the 30s to the 50s.

For example, ask any youngster of today who Michael Jackson is and they will probably say, 'who'd he'?

I have a photograph of a local rail station of the early 50s where school children were being taken on the 'flyer' for a trip to the coast; the boys wore short trousers, the girls wore dresses and so too did their young mothers. They all had polished leather shoes, short well trimmed hair styles, and looked clean and well scrubbed but it should be added that they all looked happy.

Today, we find adults of all ages and of both sexes wearing cheap faded trousers or jeans, seldom pressed, and frequently unwashed. They wear canvas and plastic trainers and T shirts and look appalling. They are anything but attractive or appealing sexually. The fathers of today have abandoned their 'Beatle' like long hair styles for the shorn type hoping that it will make them look more butch (if they only knew). If today's children happen to be rebelling against this type of dress then well done!

Young mothers of today do not want their children to feel out of place dress wise so make the effort to 'keep up with the Jones'. The bottom line is that we are all slaves to fashion and so indeed am I as I continue to wear long sleeved dress shirts, ties, and business or lounge suits with polished leather shoes and still waltz around the ballroom floor!

Hi idolno1
Do you think that you can have this debate without sounding foolish? Dandyism is a powerful tool of self expression and is defined by it's annoying established fashion. It is a right of passage. If it ain't hurtin' it ain't workin'! It is fun not about morals. People can be sexually selective and rude!

The first thing to look at are the parents an active part of their life or are thay at the bottom way behind, TV, video games, computers, etc. Do they make a point of spending time or doing things with their kids. What kind of role model are you for your kids?
Can you name your kids favorite tv shows
Have you personally met all of their friends
Do you know who's on their email list or whom they chat with and why.

We have people saying that the meaning of life is to procreate and die, which is bogus. What's also bogus is that the media and the sex industry are practically one and the same, the media only puts out what gets eaten up. It's not just our youths, it's society. It's up to every individual how they want to dress, and who they want to be seen as. It is pretty disgusting for me to see women who look like they are trying to get laid, I don't want to see what they have to offer. I'm glad that guys for the most part realize that they can be sexy enough with their clothes on. It's about attitude, what makes em feel sexy and desirable to be around will affect the way they dress.
