I have social anxiety and I struggle with facing strangers everyday and the best way to over come this 'nervousness' is to just do it. The more you talk to strangers the easier it will be. Remember, it always seems worse then it is. Once to do it, all the times after that will get easier and easier.
Practice with brief strangers such as waitresses, clerks, etc. Eventually you will develop more confidence to speak to strangers
Take charge of the situation. Be relaxed--and if you can't pretend. Pretend you do this all the time, and talking to one more person means nothing. Ask questions to find common ground and work with that. Treat them the same way you'd treat a friend and remember you have nothing to fear and there's not a single person in existence that is above you.
this sounds like good advice...
Actually listen to what they are saying, too easy to panic and be thinking of the next thing to say. Gets easy with practice.
i still would feel nervous i would probably get so nervous i just become a silent mouse in the corner listening to something that every one can hear but only faintly
