studying was fun, and at the time i wanted to study forever and never work, but when i left uni i loved the sense of liberation i felt at being able to write without reference to external authorities - writing without worrying about the word count, inter-disciplinary boundaries or academic language fashions was like being unchained

An academic degree is highly overrated. I spend thousands of EURs on a good education and now I am stuck in a dead-end job that a trained monkey could do.
Depends on the degree and your willingness to go where the jobs are. Technical skills are great, though.
