No more than say, a general request to a tree one has given magical properties to. Try it. For 1 week stop asking gods for whatever floats your boats and truly believe the Gerald the tree nymph will do the job. Same result. Because either you work at getting what you want or it happens by eventuality. It has nothing to do with ficticious entities. Really, do you have the balls to try it.? lol.

For whom? Earnest prayer from a person of faith gives a sense of purpose and also a sense of doing something in a situation where one is helpless. This is the Power of Positive thinking in action for the believer. But can prayer have any effect on objects or outcomes outside this positive reinforcement? No.

Yes and no...as much as I'd have liked the study to show prayer helped people in the hospital, it didn't [Templeton Foundation - pro religion] help those hospitalized.
Prayer does help calm and focus those who pray so in that sense it works for them.
