Well that depends on the scale of it. Small conflicts like Iraq and Afghanistan are only good for wiping out possible enemies. Large scale conflicts like the world wars are excellent for business as well as developing new technology. Airplanes went from underpowered biplanes to jet powered monoplanes in less then fifty years. Compare that to how long ships were stuck with sails for power. Not to mention modern rocket science was a direct result of WW2 where the foundation for modern space-fairing rockets was cemented with the early V2 missiles. Hell, even duck tape came from war, originally used to create a water-tight seals on military ammo cases(hence why it's DUCK tape not Duct tape...because of the waterproofness of it). Say what you will about war, you can't deny that it accelerates technological developments faster then anything else.
