Very common and what is worse everyone has horrendous personal debt perpetuating unaffordable life styles (not by choice either) - even rents and public transports is cripplingly expensive.

How simple? Depends on the neighborhood. A decent house in this neighborhood, 3 bed 2 bath, runs about $150,000. Land here is fairly outrageous. I bought gas today...I think it was $3.61 a gallon. I saw it somewhere else for $3.76. A gallon of milk is probably about $2.50 if you buy the store brand. Have no idea about cigarettes. The minimum wage is around $7.50? I'm not sure the exact number now. It keeps changing. ;)

United States... IT VARIES SO MUCH... but particularly where I am.. UPSTATE NY my huge 3 bedroom apartment is $575 a month. Gas and electric together are approx between 75-150 per month as well. Water is 25 for a few months. Milk is about 3.75, Fuel is just over 4 dollars.

this one surprises me. I was under the impression that anywhere in NY the housing was outrageous...its less than where I am. Everything else sounds close and gas has never hit 4 dollars yet.

Upstate NY is much cheapers. Its pretty and farmland... The city and long island is just impossible to make it for those just starting o ut... just don't bother trying. I grew up on long island. I just moved upstate. Long island a cheap apartment would be 1400. NOT including anything. Gas the same... Electric bout 400 a month, heat... is just STUPID... my parents paid like 800 a month and that was a good price.
