The Chicken and Egg conundrum is another example of how people who believe in god think differently to people who believe in Evolution.
Christians must think that the Chicken came first: If god invented the egg first there'd be no hens to sit and hatch it, so it would just go bad.
Whereas Evolutionists would think the egg came first, since genetic mutation takes place at the point of conception which would presumably all be within the egg. So the first egg of a modern chicken would have been hatched by a non-chicken.
But then I guess that means that god could have got some other creature to hatch the first egg, too.
Dammit - your sandwich idea is probably a more robust solution.
