Well that's not really the case. It's true that in poorer countries the army tends to have a mind of its own, but it varies wildly from state to state. Egypt certainly has an army with a mind of its own, Saudi Arabia is pretty firmly controlled by its monarchy. One rule for all "middle eastern" countries is not a good idea.
Also Pakistan is not in the Middle East, even if its a Muslim country.
Pakistan's problem is that it has three interested powers (government, secret service, and military) trying to rule the country with their own agendas and spheres of influence. It also has practically no control over its border with Afghanistan. So it's uh, complicated.Like (2)
