Dont forget them.. Remember the good and learn from the experience. Give yourself time for your heart to heal.

When something bad happens and I want to forget, I tell myself:
3...2..1. Erase! ..and it's like it never happened! I just..erase it. It really keeps me sane, you could try it, maybe it'll help you too.

..relationship-wise, just say there's someone and something better waiting for me, and I just have to trust to that.

Best of luck in anycase. =)

completely forget? basically, you get rid of everything you have that reminds you of them, or they gave you, etc. You get busy with new people and places and hobbies and routines. You get busy living life, and you don't have as much time left to mope or miss anyone. And pretty soon your life gets filled with new experiences and memories, and you start to think of them less.

It's impossible to NEVER remember them, but you don't have to think of them often. You can eventually forget about them for years at a time. And then when you remember them, it often won't mean much to you anymore because you've moved on. If you have baggage about them, you might write it down first, and then burn it as a way to mentally get it off your chest and then move on. If it's really bad, you could try therapy.

Just be clear about that's what you want to do [forget them]. and be persistent, and patient. It won't happen overnight, but it will work! You'll pull through.

As has already been suggested, find another focus. Sitting around and moping is only going to reinforce the memories you don't want. Getting up and doing something, anything interesting, will start the process of overwriting those memories. And there is no need to avoid places that are important to you just because you went there with the other person. Just go with somone else and overwrite those memories too. You may never totally forget the old memories. But they will become part of the background of your life. Worship them and keep them sacred and they keep all their power and grow more.

You ask about "procedure" as if the human mind was a computer - "just follow the instructions and Bingo - memory wipe"

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. We are all very different - there is no universal owners manual for the human brain, and anyone who tries to tell you that there is, is frankly a deluded fool who doesn't understand just how different we all really are.

Perhaps the nearest you can come to any universal is the passage of time... memories fade as time passes and new ideas and memories will take their place. So the only real advice I could give is just to carry on with your life and don't shut yourself away...

Step 1: Figure out the person you want to forget.

Step 2: Absolutely stop thinking about them, don't wonder how they are, don't wonder if they are okay, don't stalk their facebook or myspace page to get updates, simply stop thinking about them altogether.

Step 3: Convince yourself that they never existed in the first place.
