What a merry Christmas I'm going to have?

I just learned that mum might have to work on Christmas day (she's a nurse in an old folk's home), so it'll just be me, my sis and our senile grandma (who likes to do everything like Christmas traditionally and by the book) for the day.

I by all means...do not mean to be harsh...so please don't take it that way...

You need to remember the reason for the season...it's about giving....and sometimes that means giving to others...which is what your doing because it means that your mom is going to be working.. You must remember that you have a grandma..who may not be here for next christmas..and you can always celebrate another day... Maybe you should consider going to the nursing home and helping out.... That way you can spend time with people who don't have anyone and you can see your mom too. I used to take my kids to the nursing home on halloween...and the patients loved it because you see a lot of them have been forgotten about. When I was a kid we would go to the nursing home for 4H the week before and take them little packages wraped up and OH my how they loved those little packages of tissues.. Just remember while you are sad that you can't be with your mom....atleast you still have her and that you do have other options. I wish you the best...and Merry Christmas

Try to make the best of it and enjoy the traditions your Grandma wants to observe. She will not always be here to share that day with you. Sometimes the holidays that look like they will be bad turn out to be the best ones you end up having.

There's still Christmas Eve! Make the best of it; and maybe your mum won't have too long of a shift on Christmas Day! I might not be able to go home to my family at all - someone else has already requested the time off. :(
