I agree with you that lowering the age of consent to 12 would be idiotic. Although it’s not that strange that some are suggesting the idea. The age of consent has been 12 for a very long time in The United Kingdom. It wasn’t until 1875 that it was changed to 13. Ten years later, in 1885, they changed it again and it was set to 16, like it still is today.
In Germany and France the age of consent is currently set at 14 and 15 respectively. This is too young in my opinion. Keeping it at 16, like it is in The Netherlands and in The United Kingdom for example, is the best option I think.

You're not a legal adult until 18. Therefore you shouldn't be allowed to make adult choices until that same age. A 15 year old is still living at their parents house and therefore the parents are the ones responsible for the decisions made by the child. While it's not going to stop children from engaging in sexual experimentation with each other, keeping the age of consent as it is keeps most adults away from them.

Oft times an "age of consent" law is merely a 'let's make a law to control another apsect of human behaviour' thing. But we all knwo that humans, being n=humans, ar enot willing to artificial or ridiculous types of controls. And this is especialy true of teens who, when told not to do something, immediately rush out and do it.
My take on it is maybe there should be a licence to drink, drive, have sex, etc. Take a course, pass the test (written and practical) and you get a licence. For a drivers licence you have to be tall enough to see out the front window, for a drinking licence you need to be able to lift your hand to your mouth and for a sex licence you have to have hit puberty,
