try using this site to explore music

www.hypem.com

it is an aggregator for mp3 streams posted on websites that write about music.

when you find a song you like, read the blog post where the song was originally posted and try to participate in whatever scene you get into. That's what makes

it fun.

good sites for indie music news and to stay on top of whats good and new:

www.pitchfork.com www.stereogum.com

There are literally thousands of music journalist websites and many times that of private individuals running their own blogs. Most are listed on hypem.com

I prefer to keep a short list of bookmarked websites that I trust to regularly dispense new and interesting music that matches closely with (but also productively challenges) my tastes and sensibilities. Just explore, and remember to always stay open to something new!

(Also, since it was your question, some indie-type bands I've listened to lately and would recommend are Purity Ring, MS MR, Bonobo, and Crystal Fighters)

Happy hunting!
