Childhood's End by Clarke
The Massive, it's a sci-fi comic book about the world after catastrophic climate events mess up the world beyond all recognition. It's pretty realistic.
War of the Oaks by Emma Bull
The Martian is great fun! Also, The Many Coloured Land series by Julian May, have read that three times over. A bit more left field is Piers Anthony Bios of a Space Tyrant... loved them.
