Not at the bar. I'm alone in this town so I don't have a friend to go out with.

Do some volunteer work or join community groups

Eat in restaurants a lot and tip BIG!!
Servers love a big tipper!!

On a more serious note -

I just had orientation for the Red Cross the other day. They always need volunteers and I had this same question recently. Good luck.

Get a job and make friends with your coworkers. Do some volunteer work. Go to social events at church or just start up a conversation with whoever sits with you in the pew (if you go to church that is)

I've never been to church a day in my life, but those kinds of people are more my style. I do have a job that takes up my weekdays but I work with 2 50 year old dudes. Not much happening there.

Meetup.com. Listing of groups of people with like interests (book clubs, hiking groups, gamers, all sorts of things. No cost to join anything. You want to join a group you decide. You decide to show up alone, many others do the same. I love Meetup.com.

Go to meetup.com you input your interests and get a list of clubs that match your interests.

Start watching your neighbors, see who looks like they have a job, and then go hang around their car some morning and introduce yourself. Nothing wakes someone up faster than making strange friends first thing in the AM

Soup kitchens are usually the best place to start, they're really common places to find too.
