As a sufferer of Bipolar I wish I could give you a clear picture but the symptoms are usually picked up by others before you see them yourself. It also depends on the type of Bipolar you have as there are several.
The best way I can explain it is to say imagine you are feeling the best you have ever felt, like you are magical, invincible, special and then at any given moment your entire world crashes down into a pit of despair so deep you cannot see any possible way out.
That just touches the surface but it's the best I could do.

WebMd is a good place to go for symptoms of diseases:

I could tell you from personal experience, but this site will do a better job of it.

extremes of emotion, all emotions which are intensified, and going from very happy and active and hyper to extremely depressed, lethargic and hopeless.

Erratic behaviour, mood swings such as going from overly hyper and happy to depressingly sad unusually quick.

Watch out for bouts of depression and paranoia.

Usually extreme highs and lows. But in some cases, just extreme anger. It seems that the key word is extreme....

From personal experience, extreme highs(impulsive, spends money like water) and lows(bad depression, paranoia), often separated by periods (days, weeks, months) of normality.

There are different kinds of bipolar - there's a fairly broad spectrum but those are probably the main symptoms.

Bipolar disorder is genetic and sometimes very difficult to diagnois. BP 1 and BP 2. Some people are just "classic" and easily diagnoised. Let's go with classic. A person will have a state of depression and then maybe okay for a while but then they go into a manic phase. The depression is awful and then they can go into a "high" to the point that they may stay awake for days and have grandiose idea such as "writing a book" or something very strange. There are highs and lows with bipolar. There is plenty of info. on the internet about the symptoms and what is believed to happen in the brain. The good news is that there are some new meds out now that are working . For years, there was no to much that could be done but that's changing. For medical info. I like going to one of the famous teaching hospitals. You get up-to-date information that you can trust.
