Resolved Question

What are your views on euthanasia?

I was watching an 'activists' video in regards to the Newsweek article "The case for killing granny". The gentleman stated it was eugenics - but I believe he meant euthanasia. Read the article if you'd like: http://www.newsweek.com/id/215291

There is a term for it for people. It's often called "assisted suicide."

Tough question to answer. There are some great responses on here.

One thing to think about. What about people who are not physically ill, but mentally ill? That can be just as devasting and painful and terminal. Should they be included?

ohhh you mean for people? It is called euthanasia when it is done on animals, there is no term for it done on people. That is when you pull the plug if someone decides they would like to die rather than live as a vegetable. Life is not about quantity, it's about quality. It is not the years in your life but the life in your years. If that person is not living...taking their physical life does not change a darn thing. If they ask you, you should always respect their wishes. What would YOU want, would you want to have a life-death importance request ignored? You need to do what is best for that person and not for you, even though it is hard and you don't want them to die, you must put them before you and do what is right.

I think euthanasia should be made legal in all the countries. If the person who has been suffering is not ready to take the pain anymore, then no one should have the right to make him suffer forcefully.

This has been a long ongoing debate.
I think that euthanasia is acceptable for those who are suffering from a terminal illness (without hope of recovery) or are in the process of dying. Regardless of what people may say, Euthanasia sort of occurs every day in hospitals. For instance, my grandmother had a horrible fall this summer and it cause a massive brain bleed that could not be controlled. The doctors said that she would not recover and would die. Once she slipped into the unconscious state for 48 hours.. they took her off all fluids to speed up the process (which means they assisted her with her death - a person can not live more than 3-4 days without food or water)... So Euthanasia is still happening to a certain extent, there are just loop holes.

I think that Euthanasia's right or wrong aspects really depends on the person and the circumstances. It is wrong completely if a person has suicidal tenancies, temporarily insane and/or has a chance to survive - than euthanasia is wrong. However, if a person is in so much pain and death is the expected outcome than I think that Euthanasia is the humane thing to do.

I think it should be allowed; I know given the choice I'd prefer to kill myself or have a loved one kill me instead of being a helpless vegetable

I'd certainly support it as an option for the terminally ill.

living death....
nobody dared to come near
except a few nurses and me
i watched her die after three weeks no food
only water on the lips
she nearly killed me
living on air....my mothers song...

That is a very complicated issue I have faith and Jesus told Judas that he would be the one who betreyed him, he didn't have to and it was wrong and he went to hell for it. But even with abortion you think that if the mother is at risk of dying then it would be better to terminate the pregnancy well I would say that I am against that also. I have a deep faith that if it their time then it is there time. Being a Christian I believe that it is better to be born into this world blind and deaf than to not be alive at all. Because there will one day be complete healing. If someone was on life support well if they were going to die without it then let it be their time. I would want them to be as comfortable as possible and have them on pain killers instead let God be the one who takes a life not us.

It depends on the situation. In Holland euthanasia for terminally ill patients facing unbearable pains is legal. It then takes a procedure of physic analysis and a two month reflection time before euthanasia.

There is also debate about euthanasia for elderly that are lonely, isolated from society and only look forward to death. They claim their life is mentally unbearable and just want to get it over with. I don't think that is such a good idea, as the circumstances can be changed.

i think he meant eugenics and in an extreme way i can understand that he might fear it can be used. but i think there is a good use for it.

If there are no hopes of revival, yes it is an option. But we need to have adequate safeguards.
