What can I do to stop my father with a blocked artery from eating junk food? He's very ignorant(please read more

My dad recently had a stent fitted to stretch his artery...about a month and a half ago...and still continues to eat junk food sneakily...
Whenever I bring up that he shouldn't be eating it...he points out that I should lay off junk food and lose weightwhen actually I'm the normal weight and lost weight over Christmas..while he stuffed his face with chocolates.
I havent the best father daughter relationship with him..but I don't want him to have a heart attack either as it will really upset my mother and I would be aswell..
What should I do ??

I imagine its like an alcoholic, they have to want to stop themselves. No one can make them, its not going to work.

you can not stop him from living his life the way he wants to. You can share how you feel... honestly. That is ok... And you can show you care. But in the end, you have to love him for being him, and he gets to make his own choices. You can't make someone else live the way you want them to live. He is his own human being, just like you are yours. Does that make sense to you?

Try talking to him about further consequences of eating large amounts of junk food, then talk about dieting. I hope this helps.

I say "Let your Dad have his junk food." Yes, it may cause him health problems, but, he's a grown man. He deserves the right to potato chips and the like if that's what "floats his boat."

There are alot of good answers here. The bottom line is he is over 18 and no one can make him change only him. Maybe he just doesnt want to be here very much longer and this is the way he has chosen. Maybe you could cook some low fat foods and find out what he likes and try to fill up his tummy that way? Anyway, its all up to him

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference" The only thing we can change in this whole world is ourselves and our attitudes. You can try to discuss it with him further, but he is in denail, and will only stop when he wants to....sorry, but that's life...

Show him some of the Newspaper stories about what is in store for the obese and those with blocked arteries - there are some horror stories if you get the right articles!
