Oh memories... Okay here is a few tricks that have worked for me: Chew gum, get moving (brisk walk, dance, stretch etc.), drink ICE COLD water, splash water on your face, get startled (I hate this one, but if you can find those creepy "whats wrong with this picture" things.), last thing I can think of is if driving you can pull off to the side of a highway (rumble strips are a rude awakening).

A salad, fresh fruit and vegetables will not keep you up all night. Make sure you have a little protein so you don't wake up in the middle of the night hungry. Just don't have a heavy meal because that will make it hard to fall asleep and stay asleep.
