What causes others to be rude? Is it just being arrogant or is it that perhaps they don't know any better?

I think some times that it is not that they are rude, but just that they are focused on their own lives at the moment and because we are rapped up in ourselves too, we think that others actually took the time out of the day to be rude to us, when they are really just oblivious to our existence.

To some it is a way for them to feel superior to you. Others do it unintentionally, not knowing that they are saying something hurtful. Like most things in life, there is no one answer for everything.

inferiority(or superiority) complex. Insecurity about certain things....sometimes people are just rude because nobody taught them better. Some people like being rude...its a mental condition they cant help it , they like it when they insult people and it brings them joy.

I guess it could be caused by personal experience which could affect their attitude in life, such as in their upbringing or as they were treated by other people. It could come from self importance, arrogance, stupidity, general lack of how to treat other people, mental conditions, their opinion of whom their rudeness is directed, drugs or alcohol and a variety of other things. I think the question is a little bit too general.

people just think they are better than others by acting rude they get that high by looking down on others, not to worry though be the better person and know you are the better one because you don't treat people the way they do so you are probably more liked than that person :)

I believe rudeness has many routes anxiety driven rudeness is one of them say you feel un able to cope being to close to another person physically can lead to one being rude to that other person in the hope the interest of what is making that situation to close for comfort no longer needed.

I think it is to cover up their stupidity and ability to use their brains quickly enough, so cant respond correctly, so abuses or becomes very rude to cover this up, normally a narrow minded individual.
