Resolved Question

What color should I paint my kitchen?

I have a light maple floor, medium-light maple cabinets and a dark brown counter. There is also a woodstove with red brick behind it. There is a big window with lots of light and three doorways. The kitchen is medium to small size.

I like dark colors, so I would try to match or complement the dark countertop. Paint is like hair dye, though: if you don't like it, you can always cover it up and no one has to know. ;-)

Your colors sound like they would work well with Tuscan colored walls....

That would be a deep red or creamy yellow....possibly do both...maybe with one wall dark...and opposite walls light, because it would give it a rich look, with a lot of contrast....(Go with just a creamy yellow, if your kitchen is small)

I have to vote against the yellow...no offense everyone but any house I've been in with yellow walls reminds me of the inside of a cave that a bunch of kids peed on...or like they are just super smoke stained. sorry lol.
I would go with a red. A lot of people think darker walls shrink a room but thats not necessarily true and they tend to add height as well. I like the multiple color idea cause I've seen a few kitchens done that way and they have all looked really good...maybe try a really dark shade of red on one wall and pick a couple of lighter shades for the other 3 walls...if you like red...otherwise you could try to pull a kind of plum color from the red you have.

I really like the Tuscan idea, but Lambie has excellent ideas about what to do. I'd say pick a dominant color that you like from your dishware or look at your wardrobe and see what color makes you feel good. If you are not a red/orange person, go with different shades of blue, That can contrast well with all the wood colors (teal, aqua, royal). Let us know what you do.
