It is NOT gray and dead, nor does it look like cheap cement (or even our ugly backgrounds for these answers)
The problem is that the only way we see the moon is under the fantastical bright sunlight. It would be like placing the Mona Lisa 2 inches away from a Hollywood spotlight and asking you to tell me what colour her eyes are. Just too damn bright. Now, despite what some idiots say, we Have been to the and they've looked, but they have to base their views on looking through tinted glass in their helmets (like I said, it's bright there. Nasa never liked the idea of letting them land in any of the dark areas, and if the helmets weren't tinted it would have burned their eyes out)

Now, some pictures were taken in lighter shadows and while for the most part it WAS grey, it was noticed that there was all sorts of other colors too. Yellow, green, red, orange, all were there in the landscape.
There have been new photos taken of the Moon in real light, and the most uniform colour of it seems to be of a light dirty brown mud woody colour, that sadly looks nothing like the beautiful silver moon of poems and dreams that we can see from Earth

it is my understanding that the moon has no color per se, it only refracts colouurs as light bounces off of it. the moon rocks i've seen at the houston space center appear greyish but that may be due to the "politically correct lighting in the building(you know the al gore light bulbs-filled with mercury.
