Just got it through Netflix, it's on the agenda this weekend. Bill Maher is a well known comedian, doesn't claim to be any expert on religion but knows it is ridiculous for our leading politicians to shove it down our throats.

And he does express and share the opinion of the well educated masses who believe a talking snake is ludicrous. It got great reviews.

Favorite scenes: the truck trailer that was a "church" and the amusement park Jesus.

It's nothing new- every age has its scoffers and they are all usually men who just happen to be in a position of power to share to the whole world their warped opinions. And that is all it is: opinions that we all have but most of us don't have the connections to make a movie and share them. The guy has no credentials whatsoever to legitimately critique religion. It only shares the uneducated opinions of the masses and warped so called experts who have had so much education that they draw mad conclusions.

Overall I enjoyed it. I wished he had questioned me though, about my religion, I can actually answer all of those questions well.

I loved it immensely! I was alternately amused and horrified. Another film along the same lines is called "The God Who Wasn't There", which I also enjoyed.

My plan is to give a copy of it to each family member as their Christmas Present. It didn't come out quite early enough last year.

A friend at work loaned it to me, and I definitely liked it. As others pointed out, if you are a freethinker, it is a must see. What I find interesting is what it reveals about other people who are so insecure they can't stand scrutiny of their beliefs. He makes a good point (may have been in the film itself or in the extra features on the DVD) where he says that many believers will deny their religion's failings in front of strangers. So, Islam can be oppressive to women, for instance (as can other religions), justify it with their sacred writings, but deny it no matter how much evidence is presented if a stranger comes asking "why do you treat women like so?"

I like Krypton's idea: we should give it as presents to our families. Here in Backwater Rural County where I live, let's just say people could literally get beaten up in a church if they showed up asking questions. In the movie, the one trucker chose to leave the church rather than listen to Maher. Here, they would have taken Maher to the back, and last you would hear from him. Sad, but true, which reveals the closemindedness and lack of reason in the indoctrinated.
