What do people think about teachers reading blogs written by students?
thank you for all the replies so far, the situation at the school is our head teacher's 'feathers have been ruffled' by a few students and teachers because of political activities we have been engaging in OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL HOURS. It's not like anything we are doing is criminal but it is enough to annoy her because she doesn't agree with what we are doing even though it IS a good cause that she purely just doesn't agree with lol. SO she has been trying to find evidence against us so she can set senior members of staff to give us (students and teachers) warnings...quite petty really! Sorry it's so cryptic but i don't want to give too many details lol

I guess it is a good thing if teachers take an interest in their students, if they can do so without interfering with their personal lives. Parents should be doing it but aren't.

If you do it outside of school hours, can you do it outside of the school as well? If parents are okay with this activity and it is off school grounds, then she's crossing the line.

Considering the use some students have put blogs to -- posting lies about teachers, accusations, home addresses and phone numbers, etc, etc. -- it's total intelligent self-protection on the teachers' part.

Seems nothing wrong with that. If a school does a good job, I don't see why a student would have anything embarrassing on his/her blog. If a school is NOT doing a good job, hopefully student blogs will reflect that and thus, teachers may get a hint!

social media is about sharing so there is always (or should be a measure of censorship). However I don't think people would agree to share EP profiles as this is conisdered a private relm just like reading a diary.
On the other hand there is a responsibility that is put on anyone opening a diary if handled properly it can be a good thing but the risks of mishandlign it is very high.

That they are probably telling the truth. Principals will not back up teachers. Espicially if the teacher is "SOMEBODY".

I had my kids on facebook (when I had facebook). It wasn't too horrid. I had to tame my facebook a fair bit, but policing what my friends from university would write on my wall was impossible. Plus, I really had a hard time reading about the torture teen romances in my news feed. I don't need to know who is sleeping with who... Sometimes a little separation is nice. Kudos to a teacher who cares enough about her students as individuals to try to get to know them on a one on one level though! That takes an incredible amount of patience and understanding.
